Dr. Viduthalai Virumbi Balagurusamy, affectionately known as Dr. V, is a distinguished public health physician, epidemiologist, and digital health visionary with over 15 years of experience transforming healthcare delivery at scale. Trained at Thanjavur Medical College and the ICMR–National Institute of Epidemiology, he brings together clinical expertise, scientific rigor, technology innovation, and a deep commitment to making quality healthcare accessible to underserved populations.
About Dr. Viduthalai Virumbi Balagurusamy (Dr. V)
During his distinguished tenure with the Government of Tamil Nadu, Dr. V was instrumental in architecting the Tamil Nadu Population Health Registry, one of India’s most ambitious digital public health initiatives. The program mapped approximately 67 million citizens, screened over 20 million people for multiple health conditions, and enabled doorstep healthcare services for 6 million individuals through more than 11,000 frontline health workers. His leadership also extended to disease surveillance, the Tamil Nadu COVID-19 State War Room, disaster response, and mobilizing over ₹600 crore in program funding, including World Bank-supported initiatives.
An accomplished researcher and mentor, Dr. V has contributed to more than 20 peer-reviewed publications and guided over 50 postgraduate and doctoral researchers. His development of a 30-step System Sustainability Toolkit reflects his belief that successful healthcare transformation requires more than technology—it demands effective governance, institutional accountability, and sustainable execution.
